Healing the Wounds of an Abusive Past
By Rev. Yenan Silen-Perez, Ph.D.

1) What is the book about?
This book attempts to explore the emotional roots in abused women from a Biblical-Psychological perspective.
At the same time, it is a self-help book, easy on language and in processes that may be useful for ministers,
professional therapists and lay persons.  It is also a book full of my experiences as a survivor of abuse, as a
daughter of God and as a Christian Clinical Counselor. I share part of my testimony as a victim of sexual
abuse, the mental disorders it caused and my struggles with the biological/medical paradigm. I convey my
experiences in becoming a new person, free in Christ, and how God through Christ healed my wounded soul.

2) Who is the target audience?
Our target audience are Christian Counselors that want to increase their understanding of women survivors of
abuse or with mental disorders. Also, women survivors of abuse in their 30's, how are searching for other
answers. Pastor that want to understand how to better help victims of abuse and lay persons that are
interested in healing ministries.

3) What is the primary benefit?
Healing the Wound from an Abusive Past would help the therapist and the victim understand how to evolve
from a “disorientation” stage into a “new orientation” on the path to wholeness. This path will become more
meaningful as the reader comprehends the meaning of emotions, their archetypes, and the role emotion plays
within the mind and the body. They will explore how the victim of abuse experiences these emotions and the
way that she relates to her body and to other people. Furthermore, they will discover a walk that will lead to
healing, restoration and transformation through a new paradigm, where Jesus Christ is the healer of our soul.

4) What is the unique message?
"This is an excellent work. It is very scholarly and very spiritual. Rev. Silen-Perez has bared her soul after her
experience of sexual abuse that all may learn from her sufferings! She has carefully documented her years of
therapy, good and bad, and has laid out a path for others to follow in successful therapy. She describes a
number of types of therapy that have been used and she charts a new path. She combines insights from
Alcoholics Anonymous that traditional therapists will not deal with, and explains how her new methods can use
this background as just that, background, and then bring healing through Christ. A remarkable book!" (Rev.
Bruce W.H. Urich, PhD., Pastor St. John Presbyterian Church, Orlando FL and Dean Florida Christian
University)
